Most people don’t wake up one morning and decide they need hearing aids. It tends to creep in slowly. The TV volume edges up a couple of notches. You start nodding along in noisy restaurants rather than asking people to repeat themselves for a third time. A grandchild’s voice gets harder to follow on the phone. Eventually, someone you love says the words out loud, and you find yourself searching for “hearing aids near me.”
If that’s how you’ve landed here, you’re in the right place. At Abeer’s Ear Health Clinic on Francis Road in Edgbaston – and a short journey from anywhere in Harborne, we fit modern hearing aids that genuinely suit your hearing, your lifestyle and your budget. No pressure, no scripted sales pitch, just careful clinical advice from a qualified audiologist who takes the time to listen.
There are big national chains for hearing aids and they do a perfectly reasonable job. But a lot of our patients tell us they wanted something a bit different – somewhere local, where they’d see the same audiologist every time and where the conversation wasn’t being squeezed into a 10-minute slot.
That’s what we try to be. Abeer graduated with First-Class Honours from Aston University and trained at Queen Elizabeth Hospital here in Birmingham, with experience across both the NHS and private practice. She fits hearing aids for adults across Edgbaston, Harborne, Bearwood, Selly Oak and the wider B-postcodes. She’s the one you’ll see at every appointment, from your first assessment through to follow-ups years later.
We also keep things straightforward. If your hearing assessment shows you’d benefit from amplification, we’ll talk you through the options that genuinely fit your hearing loss – not the model with the highest margin. If you’d be better off waiting or starting with something simpler, we’ll tell you that too.

Hearing aid technology has changed enormously over the last decade and most first-time patients are surprised by what’s now possible. The devices we fit are small, discreet and often almost invisible. Many are rechargeable, so there’s no fiddling with tiny batteries. Most connect to your smartphone, letting you stream calls, music or the TV directly to your ears.
However, the real intelligence is in how they handle sound. Modern hearing aids use directional microphones and clever processing to lift speech out of background noise, the busy café on Harborne High Street, a family gathering, the road noise on the way back from Edgbaston Cricket Ground. They learn your environments and adjust automatically.
During your consultation we’ll look at the styles available – in-the-ear, receiver-in-canal, behind-the-ear and near-invisible options, we match them to your hearing loss, dexterity, ear shape and how you actually spend your days. Someone who’s mostly at home reading and watching telly has different needs from someone juggling Zoom meetings, gym classes and weekly trips to St Peter’s Church or Queen’s Park.
You can read more about the full range on our Hearing Aids Fitting page.

A first visit is calm and unhurried. Here’s roughly how it goes:
A proper hearing assessment. Before we talk about devices, we need to understand your hearing. We carry out a full hearing assessment, check the health of your ear canals and rule out anything that might need treatment first – including a build-up of wax, which is more common than people think.
An honest conversation. We talk through the results in plain English, show you your audiogram and explain what your hearing loss looks like in everyday terms. You’ll know exactly what you’re working with.
Choosing the right hearing aids. We discuss styles, features, brands and budgets. We will let you try the demo models on the day, so you can hear the difference for yourself rather than relying on a brochure.
The fitting appointment. Your chosen hearing aids are programmed precisely to your audiogram. We show you how to wear them, clean them, change settings and pair them with your phone. You leave knowing exactly what you’re doing.
Aftercare that lasts. Adjusting to hearing aids takes a few weeks – your brain is relearning what “normal” sounds like. We see you back for fine-tuning appointments and we’re here for adjustments, repairs and check-ups for as long as you own them.
Our main clinic sits at 78–79 Francis Road, Birmingham B16 8SP — a few minutes’ walk from Five Ways and within easy reach of Edgbaston Village, Calthorpe Estate, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Edgbaston Reservoir. If you live in B15 or B16, you’re a short drive or bus ride away. We also offer appointments at House of Health, 90 Pope Street, B1 3BH in the Jewellery Quarter if that suits you better.
Parking is straightforward in the surrounding streets and we always try to offer appointments at times that fit around work, school runs or care commitments.
Harborne is barely two miles from our Edgbaston clinic and most patients drive over in well under fifteen minutes via Harborne Road or Hagley Road. If you’re coming from around Harborne High Street, Moor Pool, Court Oak or Quinton, you can be sitting in the chair, kettle on, within a quarter of an hour.
We see a lot of Harborne patients, partly because we’re nearby, but mostly because they want the kind of unhurried, one-to-one care that’s hard to find in a high-street chain. If you’d prefer a quick chat before booking in, give us a ring and we’ll happily talk through what’s involved with no obligation.
You don’t need to be sure you have hearing loss to come and see us. Most people who walk in have just started to wonder. If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting checked:
A hearing test takes around 45 minutes, doesn’t hurt and gives you a clear picture either way. If everything’s fine, you’ll leave knowing it. If there’s something to work with, you’ll have a plan.
Hearing aid prices vary depending on the technology level and features you choose. We’ll always talk through the options across different price points and help you find a device that does the job without paying for features you won’t use. You can see our current pricing on our Fees page.
If you have hearing loss in both ears, we almost always recommend two. Hearing with both ears helps your brain locate where sounds are coming from and makes it easier to follow speech in noisy places. We will confirm what’s right for you after your assessment.
Many are remarkably discreet. Some sit completely inside the ear canal, while others use a tiny wire that disappears against the skin and hair. We’ll show you the options at your fitting so you can see and feel what works for you.
Most patients get five years’ worth from a set of hearing aids with a manufacturer’s warranty and aftercare.
Yes, we welcome patients from across the UK, the West Midlands, Birmingham, including Bearwood, Selly Oak, Moseley, Smethwick, Quinton and beyond.
If you’ve been putting it off, there’s a good reason to stop. Untreated hearing loss is linked to fatigue, social withdrawal and, over time, cognitive decline. Getting it sorted is one of the kindest things you can do for yourself, and for the people who love talking to you.
